“Georgia’s House saved my life. After spending time in jail and getting sober, I rebuilt my life with the support and solace provided by Georgia’s Friends. I was a resident for 11 months and now I have a job, am enrolled in school and live independently.” ~ Lydia

Our Mission

Georgia’s Friends provides programs and services in the Charlottesville-Albemarle community to help women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges. Georgia’s House, the signature initiative, provides hope and healing through a safe, therapeutic and structured home for women in recovery.

Our Vision

Georgia’s Friends will be a leading resource in the region for women’s recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Georgia’s Friends is striving to increase inclusivity to support a more-diverse community of women in early recovery. Our board of directors and staff are currently developing a plan that will help staff, board members, and residents better understand the unique experiences and needs of trans women in recovery in order to develop safe spaces and services that are conducive to their healing. Any individual in early recovery is likely to be in a fragile state, and we understand the importance of ensuring we have the knowledge, training, and systems in place to support the transgender community as well as our existing residents.

At this time, we are referring transgender women in need of sober-living support to Peter's Place in Richmond, Virginia, which specializes in providing the trans community with equitable access to recovery resources and housing. If you have any questions, we welcome you to contact us.

Georgias House

Georgia’s House

Georgia’s House, the signature initiative of Georgia’s Friends, opened in 2015 to provide a home for women to live in community and find health, healing, and hope in their recovery journeys. We serve up to eleven women on a full time basis in our structured recovery program and provide our residents with referrals and access to safety, wellness, advocacy, legal support, and counseling services. Residents may stay at Georgia’s House for up to two years as they transition to a self-sustaining and addiction-free life.

Georgia’s Cottage

Our doors are now open to a wider community of women because of our generous donors and volunteers who helped to deliver on our mission of expanding beyond a residence program in support of the greater community. That outreach launched in 2019 with the renovation of a small cottage located on the grounds of Georgia’s House. Georgia’s Cottage is home to our Community Pantry, administrative offices, a wonderful meeting space and a full kitchen, providing a comfortable and professional setting for women to learn and thrive in new ways.
